HS2 action group claims people turned away from information meeting as venue was too small


People were turned away from a meeting over the plan for the controversial multi-million pound high speed railway line (HS2) as an action group claims the chosen venue was far too small given the interest.

At least 1,075 people streamed into the Appleby Park Best Weston Hotel, in Appleby Magna which would also be affected by the new line, to see what information they could glean from HS2 Ltd, the firm behind the multi-million rail plan, over the proposed new 'east' route for the line around the Measham area.

Villages such as Measham to become 'meat in noisy sandwich' over HS2 high speed rail link

A campaign group fighting against proposals to controversially reroute a high speed rail link around North West Leicestershire has submitted 24 pages detailing its objections. MAPA HS2 Action Group has submitted its extensive case detailing why the Secretary of State for Transport should reject the proposed re-routing of HS2 around the east of Measham and Appleby Magna.

New HS2 route around Measham could see 700 job losses, an action group claims

More than 700 jobs are at risk if the eastern 'Measham loop' route is chosen for a high speed rail link, an action group has claimed. A survey compiled by MAPA (MeashamAustrey, Packington and Appleby Magna – the villages affected by the route) claims that more jobs will be lost than would have been if the proposed high speed HS2 line took a more westerly route.

The pros and cons of alterations to the route of the £50 billion HS2 line through Leicestershire have been set out by transport officials.

Officers at County Hall have been assessing the impact of an announcement by ministers in November that they are thinking of tweaking the path of the high-speed route as it cuts, non-stop through north west Leicestershire as it heads from Birmingham to Leeds.
